Can Telemundo boost the jewelry industry?
In a rather unique tie-in, the Spanish-language network is hoping that fans of its prime-time telenovelas will want to buy jewelry worn by their favorite characters. The line, which is available on the Telemundo jewelry website and will show up in retail stores later this year, has prices that range from $9.99 for earrings to more than $150 for necklaces and bracelets. The website offers collections from popular telenovelas like El Clon and ?Donde Esta Elisa?
The LA Times reports that the new project is the initiative of Telemundo President, Don Browne, and Executive Vice President of Emerging Businesses, Peter Blacker. The jewelry is offered in association with NBC Universal’s consumer products group Big Tent Entertainment, fashion designer Udi Behr, who selected the initial collection of jewelry, and the Richline Group Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., a major jewelry manufacturer and importer of gold jewelry.
I have to say I like most pieces and they are on trend. What do you think – would you buy a beautiful piece of joya from Telemundo?
