I received this week – for the third time since December – the catalog with the beautiful high-end jewelry collection designed by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for Asprey. I also received an electronic version of it in my email (I wonder how sales are going).
If you recall, Brad and Angelina announced back in November 2009 that they were breaking into high-end jewelry design with Asprey via a capsule collection of gold jewelry and silver accessories called “The Protector” — and inspired by the snake.
Prices start at $525 for a silver baby spoon with a curving, serpent-shaped handle. All net proceeds from sales will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which was cofounded by Jolie in 2006. The charity raises awareness and funds to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.
The jewelry-loving Jolie has worn Asprey — and other names including Lorraine Schwartz and Mikimoto — on the red carpet. Pitt, who has a passion for architecture and design, in the past has created pieces for the Italian jeweler Damiani. Both Jolie and Pitt have also commissioned pieces privately from Asprey.
So why the serpent theme? When she was pregnant with their daughter Shiloh, Jolie was given a ring — not from Asprey — in the shape of a snake. Since then she’s considered the reptile a talisman and protector of her family.
The collection features silver baby gifts such as the spoon, an eggcup, tooth box and picture frame. For older children and adults, there are pendants and rings made from gold and micropavé diamonds, all featuring curving snakes.
The child’s Protector bangle bracelets come in yellow, white or 18k rose gold and feature two snakes with emerald cabochon eyes. Available with either two emerald cabochon eyes totalling .06 carats, or the more ornate style set with 0.76ctw of diamonds and 0.22 ctw of emeralds:
The child/adult gem sprinkled pendants and rings feature 104 fully faceted cut stones as small as one millimeter each, set in white, yellow or rose 18k gold:
Two adult-sized fine diamond and emerald gem encrusted snake bangle bracelets are set in platinum. The single curled snake opens with a hinge clasp; the two entwined snakes bangle is solid but flexible:
The child/adult earrings are set with 154 individual stones and use the snake’s tail as both a design element and the fitting that secures the earring:
The rings are flush set with emerald cabochon eyes and black or white diamonds portray the ‘scales’:
In addition to gem encrusted versions of the rings, pendants and earrings, styles are available with just emerald eyes and in 18k yellow, rose or white gold:
The Protector Collection also includes a sterling silver baby spoon, egg cup, birth certificate holder and tooth box, all with the snake motif.
